FILM NITE is for people who love movies. It is for people who enjoy going out to the cinema and who want to talk about what they have seen with like-minded enthusiasts over a drink and/or a meal afterwards.
This is not an academic course. The aim is to explore what it is that we like or dislike about particular films and film-makers.
By exploring how film constructs and conveys meaning, we are able to understand the vocabulary and express our views in a more coherent fashion.
In order to achieve our aim, we see films on current release in the West End, and then attempt to locate them within a framework of film theory the following week.

Thank you for introducing me to the Film nite - You run a very inspired class!"
(The filmnite tutor is) a lovely man and a very inspiring teacher."
You get to see some great films, which make you want to see others."
I remember how inspiring the classes were and how much fun everyone used to have watching a wide range of new and old films."
I really enjoyed this film course last term and we saw some amazing films (e.g. Three Monkeys, Rachel Getting Married, Che-part 1, Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia, In the city of Sylvia, Gun Crazy, Of Time and the City). The format of the class is to watch a film one week and have a presentation about that film/ the director and his/ her other work the next week. There are also occasional guest speakers that talk about other films - such as a talk about the Sam Peckinpah films or Terrance Davies talking about his most recent film 'Of Time and the City'). The group sometimes go for meals (especially at the end of term after watching a film at the NFT) and drinks after the sessions each week so it's very sociable."
